Maxim Girl Paula Garces

Paula Garces' attractive Colombian features give her an exotic look that melts hearts all over the globe. Her ethnic heritage is part of her sexy package, and she makes the effort to keep her 5'5" frame toned and tight. This is due to the fact that, before she was an actress, Paula Garces was an avid kickboxer and personal trainer in the Big Apple. Paula Garces may not be training anyone these days, but she's certainly turning heads in the entertainment industry. In 2002, Maxim ranked her No. 67 in its Hot 100 of 2002 segment.

Paula Garces' youthful appearance only adds to her appeal, and it's also allowed her to play much younger characters. At 28, she appeared in the teen sci-fi adventure Clockstoppers and in her early 30s, she played college co-eds in Man of the House and Pledge This!. The latter had her trying to remove Paris Hilton from a sorority (not the worst of ideas).

The lovely Paula Garces has been acting since 1991, when she earned a guest spot on Law & Order. Since then, she's turned up in equal parts film and television. Paula Garces' movie credits include roles opposite Damon Wayans and Lisa Kudrow in Marci X, Tommy Lee Jones in Man of the House, and John Cho and Kal Penn in the aforementioned Harold & Kumar films.

While Paula Garces' most notable film roles have been comedic, her television roles have been quite serious. Her first recurring role was on Guiding Light, but these days, she's acquired a substantial following as the no-nonsense Officer Tina Hanlon on The Shield. Paula Garces has also guest-starred on award-winning shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Sopranos, CSI: Miami, and Oz. Last but not least, Paula Garces is an aspiring producer. To date, she's produced a pair of animated films in the Red Princess Blues series.

Paula Maria Santos Garces was born on March 20, 1974, in Medellin, Colombia. The daughter of a fisherman and a dance teacher, Paula Garces moved to New York with her family, where she began acting in her teens. Although her parents didn't work in the entertainment field, they had a direct influence on her career path. Paula Garces credits her mother with encouraging her to pursue theater, a pastime that led to professional representation from Diego Santiago, a close friend of Paula's father.

Paula Garces acted in a number of commercials, including a gig for Burger King, until 1991, when she scored a TV appearance on Law & Order and small role in the racially-charged drama Hangin' with the Homeboys. Paula Garces followed this up with roles in Life with Mikey and Dangerous Minds, opposite two of Hollywood's biggest names -- Michael J. Fox and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Following a two-episode stint on the prison drama Oz, Paula Garces switched to daytime soaps with a recurring role as Pilar Santos, a mob daughter on Guiding Light. Paula Garces' two-year stint on the show led to a return to the big screen in 2002's Clockstoppers, directed by Star Trek alumnus Jonathan Frakes. A year later, she costarred in the lively comedy Marci X with Damon Wayans and Lisa Kudrow. Neither of these films was a breakout success, but they did allow Paula Garces do test her acting wits across multiple genres.

Paula Garces' on-screen mob ties carried over to a one episode guest-spot on The Sopranos in 2004. Afterward, she landed a small but recognizable role as Maria, the girl of John Cho's dreams, in the cult hit Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. Paula Garces also got to learn cheerleading routines for a prominent role in the Tommy Lee Jones comedy Man of the House.
